The Poet of the Week: Stavros Stavropoulos | 10-16 Feb. 2025

Seven poems every week, one Greek poem each day, travel through the frequencies of VOICE OF GREECE, reaching the ends of the earth wherever Greek voices exist.

The week from 10/02/2025 to 16/02/2025 is dedicated to the poet Stavros Stavropoulos.

Stavros Stavropoulos was born in Moschato in 1962. He has written poetry, prose, a theatrical monologue, and has worked as a columnist for various publications and newspapers. From 2001 to 2008, he maintained a permanent column in the Metro newspaper focusing on books, and from 2008 to 2011, he was a key contributor to Eleftherotypia’s “Bibliotheque” supplement, where he also wrote the column “Night Will Pass.” For three years, he worked as a radio producer at ERT Open, hosting the show “Alone Together,” featuring guests from the literary and cultural world.

He has published 25 books, most of them poetry collections, three of which have been adapted for the theater. His tetralogy Pio Nyhta Den Ginetai (Darker Than Night, Oxy, 2011) – Meta (After, Apopira, 2012) – Kapnismeno Kokkino (Smoked Red, Smili, 2013) – Olomonachoi Mazi (Alone Together, Smili, 2014) marks the beginning of the so-called “Cosmic Tetralogy” and is considered a landmark work, a vast spectral allegory that transcends the boundaries of literary convention.

His poems have been translated into English, French, German, Spanish, and Serbian.
