Popi Aroniada is the Poet of the Week | 02 – 08 June 2025

Voice of Greece—ERT’s international radio service dedicated to Greek speakers around the world and to the promotion of the Greek language and culture—continues its beloved poetry segments “Poet of the Week.” Each week spotlights a contemporary Greek poet, including voices from the Greek diaspora. The poets themselves curate and perform their own work for radio, with each piece set to music by acclaimed composers.

The week from 01/06/2025 to 07/06/2025 is dedicated to the poet Popi Aroniada.

Popi Aroniada was born in Limeri, Evrytania, and has lived in Athens since her early teenage years. She studied accounting and attended courses in psychology. She has worked in the field of mass media.

She has published several poetry collections, a novel, and a short story collection. Her poetry collection Roké was translated into Polish by Ares Chadzinikolaou. Portions of the same book were translated into English by Katerina Anghelaki-Rooke and published under the title Castling (Koinonia ton Dekaton Editions, 2021). In 2025, an anthology of one hundred of her poems was translated into Romanian by Dimitris Kanellopoulos and released by Casa Cartii De Stiinta.

She has received distinctions in international poetry competitions, including Mediterranean Poetry in Rome (2021), the Nikos Chadzinikolau Poetry Prize in Poznań, Poland (2021), and second prize in the 30th Premio Nosside in Calabria, Italy (2014). Her work has been translated into English, Italian, Polish, Ukrainian, Romanian, and French.

She is a member of the Circle of Poets, the Philological Association “Parnassos,” the Hellenic Theatre and Music Critics Association, and PEN Greece. She also leads the committee for imprisoned writers and serves on the judging panel for the Greek State Literary Awards.
