Back in 1983, the historic magazine of ERT “Radiotileorasi”, issue 713, announced in its weekly television program the start of a new animated children’s series that would captivate the imagination of children and achieve great success in Greece, right from its television premiere on Thursday, October 20, 1983, at 18:05, on ERT.
This is none other than the highly successful children’s TV series, translated into 30 languages, titled “The Wonderful Adventures of Nils Holgersson,” written in 1907 by Swedish educator and author Selma Lagerlöf. Serving the educational purposes requested of her, the author brilliantly rendered the story of a small farm boy, alongside knowledge of Swedish homeland culture. The result was outstanding, and two years later, Selma Lagerlöf became the first woman to be awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1909 by the Swedish Academy, and in 1914, she also became a member.
The program “Narratives: Stories and Fairy Tales for Children and Grown Ups” will present the children’s series “The Wonderful Adventures of Nils Holgersson” on Voice of Greece, starting Saturday, January 11, 2025, and every Saturday from 17:00 to 18:00 in a series of radio shows. The program will present a condensed version of Selma Lagerlöf’s original book, with narrative texts curated by children’s book author Kira Sinou, specifically for the edition of the story of little Nils published by Adelfoi Vlassi.
