The history of Argentine Tango (Part 2) | 21 Dec. 2024, 13:00

Amid the festive Christmas atmosphere, “Historical Walks” continues its tribute to Argentine tango.

In this second part, the focus shifts to the music.
DJ Vasilis Notis, drawing from his invaluable record collection, takes us on a journey through 20th-century Argentina—from the origins of tango and the “Old Guard” to the transition into the “Golden Age” of the 1940s. Through his musical selections, he introduces us to the subtle nuances of the different musical periods and their evolution, drawing parallels between tango and rebetiko. He also discusses the internationalization of tango, the unwritten rules of its music, and the forbidden tracks never played at milongas.
Vasilis Notis performs in Athens, Istanbul, and Buenos Aires.

Produced and presented by Marilena Katsimi
Broadcast: Saturday, December 21, 1:00 PM (Athens time)
