“The life and legacy of Tasos Falireas” | 08 Dec. 2024, 12:00 pm

On Sunday, December 8, at 12:00 p.m. (Athens time), the radio show “Our Town” will present a special two-hour tribute to the life and legacy of Tasos Falireas.

A legendary music producer, Falireas was a charismatic figure in the Greek music scene. Known as a “romantic provocateur,” he was a mentor, friend, and innovator who broke stereotypes and introduced groundbreaking international trends to Greece. He left an indelible mark on Greek music history, embracing genres like rebetiko and shaping the sound of his era.

Elena Falirea, his daughter, a musician and radio producer, will join the show to share personal memories, recounting his preferences, daily habits, favorite hangouts, friendships, and collaborations.

Falireas was also a pioneer in independent publishing, participating in the creation of underground magazines like Pali, Sima, Kouros, Jazz, and Defi. He co-founded the trailblazing record label “Pop 11” with his brother Grigoris, producing significant albums that defined Greek music.

The tribute will include contributions from his friends and collaborators, such as Dionysis Savvopoulos, Giorgos Kontogiannis, Foivos Delivorias, Theodoros Manikas, and Lysandros Falireas, who will share their reflections and anecdotes.

The program will feature a selection of remarkable Greek and international songs, concluding with the iconic “As Kratisoun oi Horoi” by Savvopoulos: “Then Elena (his daughter, the dancer) bows towards Tasos.”
