The guest on this Saturday’s episode of “Historical Walks” is historian Kostis Karpozilos, who has written one of the bestselling history books of 2024, titled Greek Communism: A Transnational History.
We will discuss with him an exceptionally original framework that he develops in his book to understand both the origins and political identity of Greek communists from the late 19th century to the mid-20th century.
The protagonists of the Greek communist movement during this period were all born outside of Greece. This means, as the author argues and substantiates, that Greek communism as a movement and practice is a continuous journey without borders.
This wandering comes to its historical conclusion at the moment of the repatriation of Greek communists and their political legitimization during the post-dictatorship period. With Kostis Karpozilos, we will discuss the phenomenon of communism in Greece and the world up to the present day.
