Voice of Greece celebrates World Theatre Day | 26 & 27 Mar. 2025

One of the most significant art forms, Theatre, was born in Greece. More than 1,000 performances are staged in Athens alone every year. At the same time, every Greek community abroad has its own Greek theatre group.

Voice of Greece, ERT’s international radio, celebrates World Theatre Day with radio theatre performances from Greece and abroad, as well as interviews with contemporary playwrights and Greek directors who have distinguished themselves beyond Greek borders.

Wednesday, March 26, 2025:

At 12:00 PM (Athens time), director Giannis Gavras speaks on the show “Faraway Words” about the joint celebration of Greek theatre groups in Brussels, taking place for the 5th consecutive year in the Belgian capital.

Thursday, March 27, 2025:

At 9:00 AM, actor Stelios Mainas and lyricist Lina Nikolakopoulou talk with Antonis Karagiannakis about contemporary Greek theatre on the show “Fair Winds and Following Seas”.
At 11:00 AM, the State Prize-winning playwright (2022) Zeti Fitsiou is a guest on the show “Take Your Time” with Prokopis Agelopoulos. At 11:30 AM, the radio play “The Floor”, written by Zeti Fitsiou, will be broadcast, featuring Panos Vlachos and Petros Lagoutis, directed by Andreas Flourakis.

At 1:00 PM, theatre director, actress, and artistic director of London-based Theatre Lab Company, Anastasia Revi, and Kostas Papakostopoulos, artistic director of the Hellenic-German Theatre of Cologne, which celebrates 35 years of presence in Germany, speak with Ariadni Sofia Kouri and Natasa Vissarionos on “Faraway Words”. Also joining them is esteemed playwright and journalist Minas Vintiadis, whose play “The Lower Side of Parthenon” will be broadcast at 6:00 PM in a radio recording by the Hellenic Theatre Workshop of Brussels, starring Giannis Ambazis and Tasos Nychas.

At 8:00 PM, Stelios Ioannidis presents a musical tribute on “Irregular Notes”, featuring beloved songs by renowned composers, performed by actors who have graced the theatre stage.
At 9:00 PM, the first episode of the radio theatre series “Euterpe”, written by Zeti Fitsiou, will air, starring Fay Xyla in the lead role. This 12-part comedic series will be broadcast daily, Monday through Friday, starting on Thursday, March 27, 2025.
