Voice of Greece celebrates the International Women’s Day with Greek women around the world!

Voice of Greece special schedule begins on Friday, March 8th, with a two-hour tribute to the great Greek female voices that have written their own history. From the arias of Maria Callas, to Rosa Eskenazy and Rita Ampatzi, to the lyricism of Nana Mouskouri and Flery Dantonaki, to the emblematic voice of Sofia Vembo and to the characteristic contemporary performers Vicky Moscholiou, Haroula Alexiou, Dimitra Galani, etc. (06:00 – 08:00 Athens time)

On “Our Global Voice”, Petros Diplas discusses with Professor Anastasios Tamis from Melbourne about Greek migrant women, the “Brides” and their contribution to the Greek community in Australia (08:00 – 09:00 Athens time).

Nikos Angelidis on “Time in Greece” welcomes Evi Kontora, from the Federation of Women of Greece, as a guest in the studio. She will talk about the actions of the Federation for women’s rights (09:00 – 10:00 Athens time).

At 10 am, Prokopis Angelopoulos dedicates the show “Take Your Time” to women around the world and hosts the expatriate writer from Australia, Barbara Athanasiou-Ioannou, for a discussion about the Greek women of the world who have achieved a lot, each in her field. The show host also, Marilena Mela, geneticist who lives and works in Boston, and finally, in the studio of the Voice of Greece, comes the marathon runner-long-distance runner, Panagiota Vlachaki. Philologist and translator of Russian poetry Diana Kalaitzidi, from Tsalka, Georgia, will speak with Gianna Triantafylli on “The voice that unites us” about the Anthology of Russian Women’s Poetry, in her own translation, entitled: “My name is” (14:00 – 15:00 Athens time).

Maria Koutsimpiri on “The Elves of Tradition” has prepared an hour-long tribute to the female voices of our folk tradition (15:00 – 16:00 Athens time).

Two women from the field of gastronomy come as guests on “The Sweet Life” with Natasa Vissarionos and Nikos Ioannidis: Eleni Blouchou, publisher of The Wine Lovers, wine judge in international competitions in Greece and abroad and Annita Zachou, professional olive oil taster (17:00 – 19:00 Athens time).

Also, on March, Saturday 9th, as part of the radio series “Spotlight” with Thomas Sideris, a two-hour tribute will be broadcast on how women are depicted in the rebetiko songs of the interwar period, over a period of eighteen years, from the arrival of the refugees of the Asia Minor until the eve of World War II (06:00 – 08:00 Athens time).

Finally, on Saturday, March 9th, the show “My Wandering Heart” with Anna Prokova, will make a musical tribute on “Songs for women, by women”. Greek and foreign repertoire, with compositions and interpretations by dynamic, progressive, sincere, special women, all of whom have something interesting to say about the “women’s cause” (18:00 – 19:00 Athens time).
