Xanthos Maintas is “the Poet of the Week” on Voice of Greece | 09-15 Dec. 2024

Through the frequencies of “Voice of Greece,” Greek poetry travels to every corner of the world where Greek voices are heard. The week of December 9–15, 2024, is dedicated to poet Xanthos Maïntas.

About Xanthos Maïntas
Born in March 1950 in Nea Ionia, Athens, Maïntas studied Physics at the University of Athens, where he also completed his PhD in Theoretical Particle Physics. He worked for four years at the Demokritos Nuclear Research Center and from 1982 to 2017 served as an Assistant Professor in the Physics Department of the University of Athens, with intermittent stints at CERN’s Theory Department in Geneva. His scientific work has been published in leading European and American physics journals.

Maïntas’ poetry has appeared in literary magazines in Greece and Cyprus, featured in contemporary Greek poetry anthologies, and translated into English, Spanish, and Romanian. In 2019, his book “Los Caminos de Faittos y otros poemas” was published in Spanish by Padilla Libros, translated by Jose Antonio Moreno Jurado. Since 2006, he has been actively involved with the Takis Sinopoulos Foundation, serving as its president since January 2011.
