On Wednesday, 23 September 2026, at 18:00 Athens time, the Voice of Greece program “Voices and Music” with Alexis Kostas welcomes Puerto Rican radio producer Johnny Cruz for a tribute to Puerto Rico’s cultural identity and the history of salsa.
Johnny Cruz hosts one of Puerto Rico’s most popular radio programs and has played an important role in preserving the island’s musical heritage. The museum he runs houses personal items belonging to major Latin music artists, including original clothing and costumes worn by Tito Puente, as well as rare archival material.
The discussion will also focus on Puerto Ricans who settled in New York, known as Nuyoricans, and their contribution to the evolution of salsa. Their traditional musical roots merged with jazz and the sounds of the American metropolis, helping shape the genre and bring it to an international audience, particularly through Fania Records and the Fania All-Stars.
