Catalan philologist and Hellenist Eusebi Ayensa in a program dedicated to C. P. Cavafy | 06 Dec. 2025, 12:00

This Saturday, 06 December 2025, at 12:00 (Athens time), the Voice of Greece program “Our Town ” with Themis Rodamitis welcomes Eusebi Ayensa, Professor of Greek Philology at the University of Girona and Director of the Academic and Educational Department at the archaeological site of Empúries, as well as one of the leading scholars of C.P. Cavafy, for an episode dedicated to the great Alexandrian poet.

The conversation is prompted by the recent publication of two volumes containing the complete poetic oeuvre of Cavafy, released by Dioptra and edited by Ayensa, who also provides new commentary (C. P. Cavafy – Poems, 1–154; 155–289). The edition brings together all of Cavafy’s corrections—both in manuscripts and in the leaflets he printed at various Alexandria presses—and reflects many years of dedicated research.

The program will explore the role of language in Cavafy’s poetry, his unmistakable style and calligraphy, and aspects of his life: his early years, loves, friendships, and profound attachment to Alexandria, while actors Karyofyllia Karabeti and Stelios Mainas will read selected poems.

Produced and presented by Themis Rodamitis

Broadcast: Saturday, 06 December 2025, 12:00–13:00 (Athens time)
Repeat: Sunday, 07 December 2025, 01:00–02:00 (Athens time)
