Discovering the Sunken City of Pavlopetri | 09 July 2025, 13:00

Just off the coast of Elafonisos in Laconia lies a small islet called Pavlopetri — and beneath its shallow waters, one of the most astonishing secrets of the ancient world: the oldest known submerged city on the planet.

A unique underwater archaeological site, Pavlopetri rests just 3 to 4 meters below the surface, allowing visitors to explore its streets and ruins simply by snorkeling. It’s a rare encounter with history, visible through a mask and flippers.

Join us on a journey of exploration with Christos Liagouras, archaeologist and Deputy Head of the Ephorate of Underwater Antiquities (Peloponnese Office), and Despoina Koutsoumba, professional diving archaeologist and lead researcher of the site.

Production & Presentation: Fuli Zavitsanou
Broadcast: Wednesday, 09 July 2025 | 13:00–14:00 (Athens time)
