The Aoos River: Preserving a wild legacy | 08 Oct. 2025, 13:00

In ancient times, rivers were worshipped as gods – and not without reason. River ecosystems have always been, and remain, the foundation of human existence and life.

On Wednesday, 08 October 2025, from 13:00 to 14:00 (Athens time), “Wander Words” is dedicated to one of Europe’s last great free-flowing rivers – the Aoos (Vjosa) River. Stretching for 272 km, from the Pindus Mountains in Greece to the Ionian Sea in Albania, the Aoos stands as an ecological and cultural ark of immeasurable value.

Our guide on this journey is Alexis Katsaros, Political Scientist and Executive Director of the Mediterranean Institute for Nature and Anthropos (MedINA), a non-profit organization based in Athens that works to preserve natural and cultural heritage, promote traditional knowledge, and foster a world where societies thrive in harmony with nature.

Produced and presented by Fuli Zavitsanou
