On Monday 7 September, from 22:00 to 23:00, Voice of Greece’s “Our Town” welcomes George Kontrafouris.
The acclaimed jazz musician joins Themis Rodamitis in the studio to discuss the milestones of his distinguished career, his collaborations with leading figures on the international jazz scene, and the Greek musicians who are forging their own paths in jazz.
The pianist and multi-instrumentalist talks about his mentor Markos Alexiou, his notable collaborations with pianist Effi Agrafioti, Giorgos Trantalidis and Timo Lassy, as well as the influential international jazz musicians with whom he studied.
As a piano teacher at the Ionian University, George Kontrafouris has nurtured many emerging talents and led numerous seminars. Today, he is regarded as one of the leading figures in Greek jazz.
The conversation also explores his extensive discography, with selected tracks featured during the program. Kontrafouris also discusses Sphinx, a band whose distinctive journey he admires and has studied closely.
