On Friday, 3 July, at 22:00 (Athens time), Voice of Greece’s “Greek Jazz Players”, hosted by Pantazis Tsaras, welcomes one of Greece’s leading luthiers, Giannis Tsoulogiannis, in his first-ever appearance on Hellenic Radio.
A philologist, historian, and holder of a PhD in History from the University of Crete, Tsoulogiannis teaches in Greece’s public secondary education system. For nearly three decades, he has also devoted himself to the craft of instrument making, as well as the study and functional restoration of historic musical instruments.
The discussion is inspired by the 3rd Instrument Making Masterclass, taking place in Sparta from 3 to 5 July, featuring renowned Italian luthier Fabio Bonardi. Pantazis Tsaras speaks with the masterclass’s founder and organizer, Giannis Tsoulogiannis, as well as Theodoros Veroutis, Vice Regional Governor of Laconia, and Giorgos Yaxoglou, President of the Spiritual Center of Sparta, about the importance of the event and its contribution to preserving and promoting the art of instrument making.
The program also features rare and celebrated recordings by leading soloists on the bouzouki, mandolin, and classical guitar, performed on instruments crafted by distinguished luthiers including Lorenzo Lippi and Fabio Bonardi.
