Journeying from Penteli to the Parthenon: A tale of mystery and discovery | 04 Oct. 2025, 17:00

The grand inauguration of the Parthenon is drawing near, but strange mishaps keep occurring! In Penteli, the quarrymen misplace their tools, and a cart laden with marble blocks suddenly disappears. Architect Kallikrates holds a secret he can share only with his fellow architect Iktinos. Yet, under the golden light of ancient Athens, three young friends – Orestis, Nefeli, and their faithful dog Aristos – set out on a daring quest to help see the great temple completed. Will they unravel the mystery in time for the Parthenon to be inaugurated as the architects envisioned? The enigma along the road from Mount Penteli to the Parthenon must, without fail, be solved!

The program “Narratives – Stories and Fairy Tales for All Ages” presents a magical journey back in time, to the world of ancient Greece, in two episodes: on Saturday, 04.10.2025 (Part I) and Saturday, 11.10.2025 (Part II), 17:00–18:00, on Voice of Greece.

Through the narration of the book “Μυστήριο από την Πεντέλη στον Παρθενώνα” (Mystery from Penteli to the Parthenon), published by Porfyra – Proti Yli, written by archaeologist and author Maria Mougnai and beautifully illustrated by award-winning artist Petros Papadopoulos, young and old listeners alike will discover fascinating historical details about the temple of goddess Athena, the Parthenon. They will learn about the ancient quarries of Penteli and the remarkable journey of the marbles from Mount Penteli to the Acropolis.

How, after all, was the Parthenon built? Through which parts of ancient Athens did the “Stone-Carrying Road” (Οδός Λιθαγωγίας) pass? What did Chalandri, Ampelokipoi, and the center of Athens look like back then? Uncover the hidden secrets of this story and travel with us along the streets of ancient Athens, accompanied by the unparalleled music of the world-renowned Greek composer Vangelis Papathanassiou. The journey of the legendary marbles begins!
