Sometimes a simple paper boat — the kind children fold with their own small hands — can carry you remarkably far, until suddenly you find yourself face-to-face with the great seas and the ships that traverse them.
Something like that will happen this Saturday, 15 November, at 08:00 Athens time, on Voice of Greece and the programme “Fair Winds and Following Seas – Saturday Shift” with Antonis Karagiannakis. His guests will be Melina Iliopoulou, educator, and Maria Giassa, who works in shipping-sector marketing. They are also the authors of the book “Liberty, the Ship of Freedom”, which takes readers through the story of the Hellas Liberty — one of just three Liberty-type ships preserved worldwide.
They will talk about the pivotal role these ships played in the rise and expansion of Greek merchant shipping from the Second World War to the present day. And we will join little Giannakis and his grandfather Vasilis on a gentle voyage aboard their Liberty ship, exploring the sea and its harbours.
Stay tuned!
