“Our life is but a flash… yet we can still make it count.” – Nikos Kazantzakis
What is the measure of human existence compared to the billions of years of the universe?
How does someone go from learning to cook a meal or build a piece of furniture, or even creating a work of art – to building… a Planetarium?
On Tuesday, 26 August 2025, from 22:00 to 00:00 Athens time, the Voice of Greece program “Human Landscapes” with Victoria Kavouriari takes us on a journey into space, guided by Manos Kitsonas, Director of the New Digital Planetarium at the Eugenides Foundation. From beneath a 900-square-meter dome, we gaze upon the past, the present, and the future, marking one hundred years since the creation of the very first Planetarium in Munich in 1925.
Throughout this “voyage,” we explore what it means to stand at the forefront of global research, knowledge, progress, and technology while studying at a Greek university. We consider what we owe to figures such as the distinguished astrophysicist Dionysis Simopoulos and the great composer Vangelis Papathanassiou; what the Ancient Greeks taught in comparison to the Egyptians, Mesopotamians, and Chinese who shaped astronomy and astrophysics; and whether the ethics of space can withstand the megalomania, arrogance, and cynicism of tycoons and leaders who exploit and lay claim to natural resources.
