“The Islands of Greece: An Archipelago of Love and Freedom” | 03 May 2025, 12:00

This Saturday at noon, “Our Town” hosts Yangos Andreadis, Emeritus Professor at Panteion University, to discuss the upcoming cultural event “The Islands of Greece: An Archipelago of Love and Freedom” at the Museum of the City of Athens (Vouros-Eutaxias Foundation).

The event pays tribute to Lord Byron and Alexandros Papadiamantis—two figures who, through poetry and prose, illuminated the Greek islands as timeless symbols of love, freedom, and struggle. Byron’s poem, included in Don Juan, inspired the Greek War of Independence, while Papadiamantis’s translation of the poem underscored its message of resistance and liberty.

The exhibition also includes paintings by Yangos Andreadis, Maria Mavrou, and art historian Pepi Rigopoulou, who will also join the broadcast.

Produced and presented by Themis Rodamitis
Broadcast: Saturday, May 3, 2025, 12:00–13:00 (Athens Time)
Repeat broadcast: Sunday, May 4, 2025, 04:00–05:00
