On Sunday, 5 July, from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. (Athens time), Voice of Greece’s “Our Town“, hosted by Themis Rodamitis, presents a special tribute to the great Greek composer Giannis Markopoulos.
The program traces the career of a visionary composer who transformed the landscape of Greek music by blending tradition with innovative sounds and original orchestral approaches. Landmark works such as Stratis the Sailor, The Rizitika, Migrants, Thessalian Cycle, The Free Besieged, Citizenship, Service, Chronicle, and Invisible Pulse have secured his place among the most influential figures in modern Greek music.
Reflecting on both the man and his artistic legacy are Lakis Chalkias, Memi Spyratou, Vasilis Lekkas, and conductor Alekos Stoupakis. The program also features some of Markopoulos’ most iconic compositions.
