“Our Town” with Themis Rodamitis bids farewell to 2025 with three special broadcasts | 27-28 -29 Dec. 2025

“The Long Journey of the Lyre” | Saturday, 27 December 2025 | 12:00
Renowned scholar, composer, soloist, and author devoted to the ancient lyre, Nikos Xanthoulis, performs live in the studio, presenting original compositions and rare melodies on this exceptional instrument, while reflecting on its long and multifaceted journey through time. The multi-award-winning artist speaks about his encounters in many countries with eminent musicians, students, and musical ensembles, highlighting the reception of the instrument and its sound among diverse cultures and audiences. His scholarly depth and artistic mastery establish Xanthoulis as a significant ambassador of Greek musical heritage—and of Greek culture in its deepest sense.

“When the bouat Celebrated” | Sunday, 28 December 2025 | 12:00
The episode explores the enchanting world of the bouat of Plaka — the historic live-music venues that shaped a unique chapter in Greek musical culture and played a decisive role in the emergence of the “New Wave.” Guest in the studio is Vangelis Dikos, singer, musician, and founder of the legendary bouat Apanemia, who revisits defining moments of the era: the people, the spaces, the creators, and the songs. A tribute to a time when music brought people together, giving rise to friendships, communities, and enduring loves.

“Rebetiko Nights in the Old Neighborhoods”  | Monday, 29 December 2025 | 22:00
Rebetiko flourished in working-class neighborhoods such as Piraeus, Kokkinia, Nea Ionia, Kaisariani, and beyond. Guest on the program is leading authority and scholar of rebetiko, and author Panagiotis Kounadis, who speaks about key artists of the era, gathering places, neighborhoods, feasts, and celebrations of ordinary people—primarily refugees—who, despite hardship, pain, and relentless labor, found the strength to sing, celebrate, and find joy, even in courtyards and streets. An episode rich in insight, drawn from Kounadis’s long journey of dedicated research and passionate documentation.

Produced and presented by Themis Rodamitis
