On Saturday, 14 February 2026, at 08:00 (Athens time), Antonis Mavrakakis, shipowner and head of Mayamar Marine Enterprises S.A., will take the helm of Voice of Greece’s program “Fair Winds and Following Seas – Saturday Shift” with Antonis Karagiannakis.
Originally from Sfakia in Chania, the guest will share with listeners how his journey in shipping began in 1964. He will recount, in his own way, how he and his brothers acquired their first vessel, the various challenges they faced, and remarkable stories along the way — most notably the hijacking of a company ship and its crew, involving Andreas Papandreou and Fidel Castro, as well as his meeting with Donald Trump.
Mr. Mavrakakis will also speak about the current course of the shipping industry, young people at sea, market trends, risk management, decarbonization, and much more.
