The crucifixion as the ultimate moment in the conflict between Good and Evil | 10 Apr. 2026, 00:00

On Good Friday, 10 April 2026, at 00:00 (Athens time), “Remarkable Personalities” with Stavroula Karali welcomes Sotiris Despotis, Professor at the Department of Social Theology and Religious Studies of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, specializing in the interpretation of the New Testament, in a broadcast dedicated to Good Friday and the timeless question of the coexistence of good and evil.

Sotiris Despotis analyzes the theological meaning of the Crucifixion, the concept of sacrifice, and the significance of the Cross as a central symbol of the Christian faith. Particular emphasis is placed on the issue of evil in Christian thought: what evil is, why it exists in the world, how it relates to human freedom, and why it often appears to prevail throughout history. At the same time, the possibility of transcending it through forgiveness, gratitude, and selfless love is explored.

The program also focuses on the figures of the Passion—Judas and Pontius Pilate—highlighting the human dimensions of evil and the choices that shape it. Within this framework, the enduring presence of evil is examined through human actions and intentions, as well as through the triptych of Victim–Perpetrator–Observer.

The discussion ultimately turns to the Resurrection, which stands at the core of the Christian faith and offers the answer to the darkness of Good Friday. The triumph of life over death emerges as the ultimate message of hope for the modern individual.
