“The Dragon Who Wove Words” & “My Kingdom for a Game” | 01 Nov. 2025, 17:00

Two enchanting tales by author Marianna Koumarianou come to life on “Narratives – Stories and Fairy Tales for All Ages,” from Kalentis Publications, on Saturday, 01 November 2025, 17:00–18:00, on Voice of Greece.

In the first half of the program, we journey into the story “The Dragon Who Wove Words” — a lyrical, symbolic fable that reaches from the depths of time into the present. The author was inspired to write it after visiting the village of Glyki, near Paramythia in Epirus, a land steeped in myth and memory. Through the evocative illustrations of Renia Metallinou, the landscape and atmosphere of the tale are rendered in delicate tones — the grandeur of the Epirus earth and the flowing beauty of the Acheron River, bridging the world of yesterday and today. An allegory of language and legacy, where words and meanings endure, carrying forward the treasures of our tradition.

In the second half, the author, with a playful and imaginative spirit, invites listeners, young and old alike, to a match of chess. In this whimsical story, enriched by the vibrant illustrations of Eliza Vavouri, the familiar pieces come to life: the queen, the knights, the rooks, and the wise strategists of the chessboard. An illustrated tale that gently introduces children to the fascinating world of a game that has become an Olympic sport — one that celebrates thought, focus, and the quiet art of concentration.

From “The Dragon Who Wove Words”: “Once upon a time, there lived a dragon who wove words and set them adrift upon the river. He sent forth cool, refreshing words that quenched human thirst, and words of gratitude that filled hearts with love. Many years have passed since then. The river still flows, and people from east and west come to see it and listen to its story. If you stand near, you might just hear its whisper…”

From “My Kingdom for a Game”:In this fairytale kingdom, everything happens with care and delight. Each figure has a special place, and all follow the rules: the king, the queen, the bishops, the knights, the rooks, and every creature, real or imagined, that moves across the chessboard. If you love stories and games, here you will meet the king of them all.
