The Holy Cross: From a Symbol of Death to a Symbol of Worship | 10 Sept. 2025, 22:00

Father Philotheos Dedes, Archimandrite and Director of Church Architecture of the Holy Synod, will be the guest on Wednesday, 10 September 2025, at 22:00 (Athens time) on the program “Remarkable” with Stavroula Karali on Voice of Greece,

The clergyman of the Archdiocese of Athens traces the dark history of the Cross, once a brutal instrument of torture and humiliation dating back to the era of Alexander the Great. He explains how, through the crucifixion of Christ, the Cross was transformed from a symbol of punishment and death into one of hope, faith, and salvation.

Father Philotheos also explores the political and spiritual power the Cross acquired over the centuries—through the vision of Emperor Constantine, the construction of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, and the pilgrimage of Saint Helena, who in her later years sought the True Cross in the Holy Land.

Beyond history, he reflects on the deeper meanings of the crucifixion and the enduring devotional dimension of the Cross

Produced and presented by Stavroula Karali
Broadcast: Wednesday 10 September 2025, 22:00–23:00 Athens time
