Three women leading the way in protecting Greece’s seas | 27 June 2026, 08:00

Three women dedicated to the protection of Greece’s marine environment join Antonis Karagiannakis on “Fair Winds and Following Seas – Saturday Shift” on Saturday, 27 June. Guests are Annie Mitropoulou, Executive Director of the Cyclades Preservation Fund (CPF); Dr. Maria Salomidou, researcher and scientific diver at the Institute of Oceanography of the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR); and Alexandra Thoma of the Ionian Environment Foundation.

The guests discuss their connection to the sea, their places of origin, and the personal motivations that inspired each of them to devote themselves to protecting marine ecosystems. They also share the key conclusions of the 1st Greek SeaGrass Forum, held in Athens just a few days ago.

The conversation also explores environmental education and public awareness in Greece, marine protected areas, the country’s marine parks, Posidonia seagrass meadows, and the initiatives undertaken by organizations and public authorities to safeguard Greece’s rich marine heritage.

An engaging discussion about Greece’s seas and their ecosystems with three women who know them intimately.
