On Saturday, 11 July, at 17:00 (Athens time), Voice of Greece’s program “Narratives – Stories and Fairy Tales for Children and Grown-Ups,” presented by Maria Karagiannaki Iona, features three traditional tales from Greece’s rich oral storytelling tradition.
Passed down through generations by grandparents and village storytellers, these timeless tales were once a cherished part of family life, especially during summers spent in villages across mainland Greece and the islands. As oral storytelling gradually fades, many of these stories have been preserved in folklore collections, handwritten notebooks, and small local publications, ensuring that their wisdom lives on for future generations.
This episode presents three beloved folk tales: The Magic Ring, a story about the virtues of patience and hard work in the face of greed; The Beautiful Maiden and the Dragon, celebrating kindness, humility, and selflessness; and The Never-Ending Tale, a clever story that highlights the power of wit while challenging rigid and dogmatic thinking.
