In these uncertain times, “Historical Walks” hopes to open a small window of hope, encouraging the idea that a better future is possible.
The guest on the program is Sotiris Bahtsetzis, Associate Professor of Contemporary Art Theory and Curatorial Practices at the University of Thessaly. On the occasion of his recent book “Chrono-Politics and Topo-Economies: Understanding the Present and Charting the Future,” the discussion attempts to approach and interpret the complex world we live in today, while also exploring possible alternative perspectives on contemporary social issues.
The conversation focuses on how the major challenges of our time — social inequalities, the environmental crisis, and the changes brought about by digital technology — are connected to the way we perceive time and place within the world we inhabit.
In the first part of the program, we examine the concept of “chrono-politics,” that is, the relationship between time and the social and political structures that organize our lives.
In the second part, we turn to “topo-economies,” exploring how the conditions of a particular place shape people’s opportunities and inequalities, and how new challenges emerge in a world that is constantly changing.
We also discuss the role of art: how it can help us not only understand the world around us, but also imagine the future in different ways.
The program is accompanied by works of classical music and film soundtracks, selected by the guest.
