Wander Words – Destination: Samos | 17 June 2025, 13:00

On Tuesday, 17 June 2025, in a new episode of “Wander Words” on Voice of Greece, Prokopis Agelopoulos takes us to verdant Samos — the birthplace of Pythagoras and Aristarchus, and home to the island’s famed sweet wine, whose roots reach back thousands of years.

We’ll uncover captivating stories from the island’s past and learn about its most important ancient landmarks with archaeologist Maria Viglaki.

Margarita Ikariou, Head of Marketing and Communications at the Samos Wine Cooperative (EOS Samos), will speak about the island’s wine tradition, the mountainous villages where vineyards have flourished since antiquity, and the work of the local winegrowers’ collective.

Sotiris Margioris, Artistic Director of the “Heraia–Pythagoreia” Festival, will share insights into the cultural life of the island and its natural beauty.

And finally, Argyris Chiou — a Greek-American entrepreneur who emigrated to the U.S. in the 1960s — reflects on the Samos of his youth and the island he rediscovers every time he returns home.

Produced and presented by Prokopis Agelopoulos
