52 Years Later: Melpo Lekatsa on “Human Landscapes” | 18 Nov. 2025

Time…
Silence…
A voice that endures…
Fifty-two years. For an individual, it could have been an entire lifetime under ordinary circumstances — or perhaps more than half of one. Yet for history, for historical time, it is something that happened only yesterday.

On Tuesday 18 November 2025 at 22:00 Athens time, Voice of Greece’s “Human Landscapes” with Viktoria Kavouriari revisits defining moments and reflects on the present and the future. The guest is Melpo Lekatsa — a teenager during the Polytechnic Uprising and the young woman who ran the improvised pharmacy inside the National Technical University of Athens.

In the brutality that followed her arrest, what kept her alive was the wrapper of a chocolate bar — turned into a diary, a message to her parents, a fragile thread of survival. Alongside it, the values she had been raised with: humanism, democracy, freedom, and the courage to prevail over fear.
