Captain Giannis Karagiannis, who hails from Lemnos and Stemnitsa in Arcadia and is the son of an engineer, speaks to “Fair Winds and Following Seas” about young people in the shipping industry.
“They must love the profession of seafaring, which is difficult, have passion, read, and stay informed about the new trends and developments in the shipping sector. Nothing in life is easy. They need to have goals and a plan for their lives. In the end, the reward comes,” emphasizes Captain Giannis.
He uses his own example, sharing how, at the age of 34, he went to Wales for maritime studies, which led to his new career in offices after his time on ships. In his characteristic way, he takes us on a journey to various ports and seas around the world, telling us how wonderful the long voyage is for the crew of the ship.
