The “Voice of Greece” embarked on a poetic week, as on Monday, November 7, 2022, the poet and performer Konstantinos Papacharalampos, who lives in London, was invited on the show “Faraway words”. It was prompted by his latest poetry collection “warm body” which was released in 2021 by Koukounari publications. The sense of smell emanates from each verse, becoming stronger, more nostalgic and “nomadic”, heading towards the past as well as the future. “A text commenting on the sense of smell”, the poet writes on the back cover of the book and he points out to Natasa Vissarionos and Giannis-Stelios Tzirvelakis that “sound is the scent of language”.
Mr. Papacharalampos likes to experiment with the language, its extensions, perception and dimensions, while he does not hesitate to give musical rhythms and undertones from different genres, such as jazz, to his writing.
The second part of the show was hosted by Mrs. Niki Matziari-Gkarai, founder and president of the Hellenic Women’s Network VIC “HELIADES”, Melbourne, Victoria, a network with multiple goals, as well as actions. Ms. Gkarai spoke about the creation, the underlying idea and the implementation of a vision focused on Greek women living in Australia. The goal of the Network was not only to support expatriate women in Victoria, but also spread Greek morals and customs as well as language, always in harmony with the corresponding Australian customs. Events range from cultural to contact and networking events, while its over one hundred members could meet online and electronically during the COVID-19 pandemic period. They also run charitable actions to support those affected by the fires which devastated Australia and Greece, while their most recent donation was addressed to Ukrainian refugees in Greece in order to teach them Greek and help them adapt to our country.
