Like Odysseus: Road victims, the Trojan War, and the Sacrifice of Polyxeni | 27 July 2024

In a reprint of a foreign article from Traction, we learn that Greece holds a little-known distinction: it has the highest number of motorcycles per 1,000 inhabitants of any country in Europe. Even compared to countries with a domestic motorcycle production, Greece leads. There are more motorcycles per capita in Greece than in countries like Italy, France, Germany, and the UK.

While the European average is 67 motorcycles per 1,000 inhabitants, Greece boasts 160 motorcycles per 1,000 inhabitants, which is about 2.3 times higher. Despite its population being only 2.3% of Europe’s total, Greece has 5.3% of Europe’s motorcycles on its roads.

This information was shared in an article by Kaiti Makri, Vice President of SOS Road Crimes, a Panhellenic Organization for the Support of Road Victims, and a founding member of the International Road Victims Partnership. Kaiti Makri works for the Municipality of Alexandroupolis as the Head of the Department of Education and as the Director of the Municipal Library of Alexandroupolis. She is also an illustrator of fairy tales, comics, and other publications, as well as a performer of traditional songs from Asia Minor.

The article was published in the newspaper “GNOMI.”
