The tragic crash of the Olympic Airlines plane on October 29, 1959, deeply affected the families and friends of the 19 people who lost their lives in the wreckage. The show “Time in Greece” investigates this heartbreaking event with the help of researcher George Gousias and Stella Daniil, who is indirectly connected to the story.
The show explores various aspects of the incident, reaching out to the heroic village of Beloiannisz in Hungary and Thessaloniki, where “the poet of the ball,” Savvas Sfairopoulos, a player for Apollon Thessaloniki at the time, intended to travel. Notably, the father of the current coach of Red Star Belgrade, Giannis Sfairopoulos, missed the flight, marking a twist of fate.
The narrative also highlights the poignant story of heroic fighters of the Democratic Army, Vangelis and Evanthia Volovotsis, both teachers, who lost their child in the fateful flight.
This comprehensive investigation aims to document the events that shocked the entire country at the time.
