On Tuesday, 3 November 2026, “Common Ground” took us to Kechrokampos, Kavala, a mountain village in Eastern Macedonia with Pontic Greek roots. Built on a fertile plateau near the Nestos Valley, it is home to just over 300 permanent residents.
Parents of children attending the village’s single-teacher elementary school are working to attract new families so that the school can qualify for a second teaching position and secure teachers for all the required specialist subjects.
Joining the program were Nopi Georgiadou, president of the elementary school’s parents’ association; Dimitra Tsikalaki, president of the village’s cultural association; and Tasos Papadopoulos, who moved to Berlin in 1992 and spent many years there before returning to his home village after retirement.
