In he Tuesday, 24 March 2026 edition of the program “Common Ground” with Prokopis Agelopoulos we were taken on a guided tour in the beautiful mountain village of Manolates on the island of Samos—known for its rich tradition in viticulture and traditional crafts.
In the studio, we were joined by Maria Karavatou, a jewelry designer who, a few years ago during the financial crisis, visited Samos, fell in love with the village, and decided to buy a house there, setting up a workshop on the ground floor to create her work.
Our guides also included Popi Axiotou, a local weaver and community president; Kostas Kampouris, president of the Cultural Association, established just a year ago; and Emmanouela Makri-Vathioti, a ceramic artist, who practices a craft that has been passed down in her family for four generations.
