“Faraway Words” on the 3rd “Smart Islands” International Conference | 02 Sept. 2026

The program welcomed Evangelos Rigos, a representative of the organizing committee for the “Smart Islands” international conferences, organized by the International Hellenic Association (IHA), based in Delaware, USA.

Rigos discussed in detail the third conference, which will take place on Gavdos on 22 and 23 September and focus on providing practical support to the southernmost island of Greece and the European Union. A list titled “24 Needs of Gavdos” has already been compiled, identifying specific needs that can be met by charitable foundations, businesses, universities, organizations, associations, Greek diaspora groups, and concerned citizens. Scientists and professors from around the world will participate in the in-person conference, which anyone interested can watch online.

The first conference was held on Pserimos, where the IHA renovated and reopened the school after it had been closed for many years. Today, the elementary school has eight pupils.

The International Hellenic Association (IHA) is a nonprofit organization based in Delaware, USA. Its mission centers on supporting Greece and Hellenism on national and cultural issues through numerous independent committees working in different fields. It has approximately 4,000 members worldwide.
