The guest on the program, joining from Cairo, was poet and lyricist Christos G. Papadopoulos. The conversation was prompted by the radio show he produces and hosts on Egyptian National Radio’s Greek-language service, titled “Once Upon a Time… in Cairo.”
Mr. Papadopoulos spoke about his program, which explores the history of the Greek diaspora in Egypt, aiming to inform younger generations and bring to light lesser-known aspects of the Greek presence in the land of the Nile.
He also reflected on the reasons that led him to settle in Egypt in 2007, his long tenure as director of the Greek Cultural Center in Cairo — a position he held for nearly 13 years — and spoke with warmth about figures such as Kostis Moskof and the current Greek ambassador, Nikolaos Papageorgiou, highlighting their contributions. In addition, he shared insights into his personal archive of historical Greek newspapers from Cairo, selections from which he regularly posts on his Facebook page “Paliatzoures” (meaning “curios” or “vintage finds”).
