In 2019, Giannis Athanasopoulos coached Stuttgart to the first German championship title in the club’s history. He went on to win five Hungarian championships and four Hungarian Cups with Vasas, as well as a Central European League title and a Central European Super Cup.
With the Czech national team, he won the European Golden League in 2019 and the Challenger Cup in 2024.
He is the first Greek coach to work in a professional U.S. league, having taken charge of LOVB Nebraska.
