Giannis Hatzis on “Voices and Music” | 19 May 2026

On this episode, we had the pleasure of traveling digitally to the lush and historic city of Arnhem in the Netherlands, where we connected live with an exceptional member of the Greek Diaspora, Giannis Hatzis.

A scientist of the younger generation of Greeks abroad — an Electrical and Computer Engineer from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) — who successfully balances the rigorous logic of engineering with the spontaneous lyricism and liberating self-irony of an authentic folk-rock singer-songwriter.

We spoke about his early years in Thebes and the songs he had been writing since adolescence, many of which remained tucked away in a drawer for years before finally coming to life. We revisited his recording debut, Tranzit (2020), produced by Manolis Famellos and Vangelis Markantonis, which was released during the lockdown period, as well as his electric rock turn with the album Vertigo (2023), produced by Kos K.

He introduced us to his brand-new single GR 2.0 and explained the strategy behind his upcoming album Detour, whose tracks will gradually be unveiled as digital singles throughout the year. He also described his daily life beneath Arnhem’s cloudy skies and how the Dutch landscape functions as a creative blank canvas, inspiring lyrics infused with a distinctly Greek sensibility and aroma.
