Today’s program featured Mariana Masmanidou, a distinctive performer, as part of our series showcasing the fresh, evocative, and versatile voices of the new generation of Greek singers.
Born and raised in Thessaloniki, Mariana has a rich artistic background. She is a graduate of the Department of Theatre Studies at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and graduated with honors from the Giorgos Theodosiadis Drama School. She has also trained in contemporary singing and vocal technique with distinguished teachers such as Chara Kefala and Elli Paspala.
Through workshops with Dimitra Galani and Martha Frintzila, as well as appearances in theater productions including “The Bacchae” and “Ajax,” directed by Frintzila, Mariana brings together theatrical expressiveness and an innate musical sensitivity.
Her well-loved reinterpretations include “Ki ego na liono” (“And I Melt Away,” 2022), “Afto pou perimenoume” (“What We’re Waiting For,” 2024), and, more recently, “Thalasses” (“Seas”). Alongside her successful live performances in Athens, these recordings reflect her love of bringing the past into the present and her distinctive approach to interpretation.
