Angeliki Spiridakis was the guest on “Faraway Words”. She is the founder and director of Music from Greece, the nonprofit organization that now officially serves as Greece’s National Music Export Office.
Ms. Spiridakis spoke about the organization and its efforts to promote contemporary Greek music abroad. She referred to the “export” of Greek music and how it can serve as a tool of cultural diplomacy.
She also discussed some of Music from Greece’s most important initiatives to date, including participation in WOMEX and Jazzahead!, as well as the reception contemporary Greek music receives internationally, drawing both from the festivals in which the organization participates and from her own personal perspective as a Greek who has lived abroad for many years.
