On Monday, November 11, 2024, Alexis Kostas hosted Dimitris Karkoulias on the show “Voices and Music.”
The young pianist recently completed his jazz piano studies in Groningen, Netherlands, where he met renowned jazz pianists such as Jasper Soffers, Dado Moroni, Danny Grissett, David Kikoski, Peter Beets, and others through the New York Comes to Groningen educational program.
An important influence for Dimitris Karkoulias was also his encounter with the esteemed George Kontrafouris, which sparked his experimentation with the Hammond organ.
Since 2020, Karkoulias has been active across Europe, performing with various groups as a leader or sideman. He has participated in and taught at Jazz Workshops in Germany, Denmark, Barcelona, Italy, the Netherlands, and beyond, and has appeared at prestigious venues and festivals, including Concertgebouw (NL), JazzAhead (GER), and others, playing both piano and Hammond organ.
He continues to be based in the Netherlands.
