On 12 July 1917, the owners of the mines in the city of Bisbee, Arizona, with the help of the sheriff and 2,000 armed vigilantes, arrested, detained, and deported all workers who had gone on strike.
Among them were many Greek miners, who were separated from their families and children… It remains one of the darkest chapters in American history, remembered with respect for the labor movement and the miners’ struggle for a dignified life, far from the conditions of hardship and death they endured.
Nikolas Angelidis and the program “Time in Greece” take us back to the brutal and violent events of those days.
