Sotiria Maragkozaki, author of the book White Dog, Black Dog, which recounts the life, actions and struggles of Nikos Vavoudis, is a guest on the program “Time in Greece” with Nikolas Angelidis.
Nikos Vavoudis, also known as Raikos, remained faithful to his ideology until the very end. He was imprisoned in Aegina under the Idionymon law and escaped together with seven comrades in a cinematic jailbreak that became part of history. After the escape, he reached the Soviet Union, where he also had roots through his Russian mother. He fought with courage and force on the Spanish front against Franco’s fascists. He took his own life in 1951 when the wireless transmitter of the then-illegal Greek Communist Party was discovered in Kallithea.
