Stefanos Gkikas, Deputy Minister of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy, spoke on Voice of Greece’s “Fair Winds and Following Seas” for World Maritime Day, observed each year on the last Thursday of September.
Sending his best wishes to Greek seafarers, Gkikas spoke about the difficulties they face in the Red Sea and the Black Sea amid tensions in those regions. He also reflected on Greece’s remarkable standing in global shipping.
The deputy minister discussed seafarers’ safety, needs, and training, as well as new fuels, emerging technologies, and rapid developments across the shipping industry. He noted that this year’s International Maritime Organization (IMO) theme is “From Policy to Practice: Powering Maritime Excellence.”
