Film festivals have been around for nearly a century but most of the three quarters of them have been created in the last 20 years, now numbering over 3,000 screens around the world. It is a truly global phenomenon, appearing everywhere with a very important place in the hearts and minds of the media, filmmakers, directors, producers, distributors and the world. They have become cultural milestones for the cities and countries where they take place, amplifying the voices of filmmakers everywhere. Why are these film festivals so important? On the occasion of the PIRAEUS PORT FILM FESTIVAL [PPFF], the new film festival that took place in the port of Piraeus, Lina Fountoglou – Artistic Director of PPFF and Kyriakos Hadjimichailidis – member of the Organizing Committee and Program Manager of the Short Films category, share in a nice conversation their views on what makes the festival so interesting for the film world and reveal some secrets on how a film festival is set up from the beginning to the end… “the sea, sailors and ports”…
