The Poet of the Week 04 -10 March 2024 is Dimitris Orfanidis.
Dimitris Orphanidis was born in Thessaloniki in 1964 and grew up in Athens. He studied law at the Dimokritos University of Thrace in Komotini and in Germany, where he completed his postgraduate and doctoral thesis. He is a Judicial Officer with the rank of President of the Court of Appeal and is based in Athens.
He has represented Greece at the European Union in the area of Substantive Criminal Law and has taught at the School of Magistrates. He is Vice President of the Circle of Greek Literary Judges. He has published an essay on Kavafis entitled “THE 21st CENTURY OF K.P.KAVAFI – A DISCIPLINE DE VIE”, the poetry collections “Dasynomenon Epsilon” (Accentuated Epsilon), “I kinonia ton politon” (The Civil Society), “Tritos Kyklos Arsefseon” (Third Cycle of Irrigation) and “Cyborg Sapiens”, as well as the novella “Engastrimythos Theos” (Ventriloquist God). The collection “Cyborg Sapiens” is the first poetry collection in Greece and one of the first internationally, having Artificial Intelligence as its theme. Her legal-philosophical essay entitled “Homo Sapiens or Cyborg Sapiens? Legal Order for Man or Metahuman?”. Vasilis Vasilikos has described her as “an accomplished poet”.
