Poet of the Week: Kostas Bournazakis | 07 Mar. 2026

Kostas Bournazakis — poet, translator, scholar, and literary editor — was born in Heraklion, Crete, in 1961. He studied at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Crete. He has published the following books:
Poetry:
“Archipelago” (Ikaros, 1997), “Nine Sea Transformations” (out of print, 2016), “Faces and Ordeals” (Ikaros, 2016), “Amid Suns and Moons” (Ikaros, 2020), “Images” (Ikaros, 2025).
Translations:
John Keats, “Seven Odes” (Ikaros, 1997); W. B. Yeats, “Poems” (Vikelaia Library, 2011); W. H. Auden, “Poems” (Vikelaia Library, 2013).
With scholarly editing, presentation, and study, he has published works by Angelos Sikelianos:
“Letters,” Vols. I & II (Ikaros, 2000); “Antidoron” (Ikaros, 2003); “Mother of God” (collectors’ deluxe edition, Ideogramma, 2003); “A Sermon on Heroism” (Ikaros, 2004); “Letters to Eva Palmer Sikelianos” (Ikaros, 2008); “Memory Is Here Both End and Beginning…” (newspaper Kathimerini, 2014).
He has also edited and published:
“Chronicle of Angelos Sikelianos (1884–1951)” (Ikaros, 2006); “Anthology from the Work of Pantelis Prevelakis” (Vikelaia Library, 2010); Stylianos Alexiou & Zissimos Lorentzatos, “Correspondence (1967–2003)” (Vikelaia Library, 2010); “Anthology from the Work of Giorgis Manousakis” (Vikelaia Library, 2012).
