Poet of the Week: Sofia Dionysopoulou | 16 June 2025

Sofia Dionysopoulou was born in Cairo in 1966. She studied comparative literature at the Sorbonne, as well as classical singing and photography. She works as a literary translator from French, Turkish, and English, and also as a theatre director.

Her published works include:
– Me tis evlogíes ton nekron (short stories, Agra 1997)
– I kori tou xenodochou, Agra 2012 (novel)
– The poetic plays Nychtodia (Agra 2000), Neropompi (Nefeli 2001), Iphigéneia tis Evripídou (Nefeli 2010), Mideia: miden sto kokkino (Sestina 2019)
– The poetic compositions Se onomazo Chyourrem (To Rodakio 2019), Thyrída 1821 (To Rodakio 2020), Narkissos Antinarkissos (To Rodakio 2023)
– The poetic prose Psyches stin erimia tou (To Rodakio 2016)
– In collaboration with Marina Mentzou, the poetic fairytales Sto fos kai sto lykofos (To Rodakio 2021) and the poetry collection Ta mikrutsika (Govostis 2025)

Nychtodia received the First Prize for a Debut Playwright from the Ministry of Culture.
Her works Neropompi, Mídeia: miden sto kokkino, and Iphigeneia tis Evripídou have been published in French by Les Nouvelles éditions Place.
She is a member of the Hellenic Authors’ Society and the Reading Society of Corfu.
